TOLEDO—Bill Axe, Toledo Central Catholic High School’s athletic director, has been named Athletic Director of the Year by the Northwest Ohio District Officials Committee for the 2006-2007 academic year. The award is presented for outstanding service as an athletic director.

Pat Havens, president of the Officials Committee, presented the award to Mr. Axe at Central Catholic’s monthly faculty meeting Feb. 7 to reinforce the connection between athletics and academics.
Mr. Axe, who came to Central Catholic in 1978, has taught speech, English, journalism and communication. He has been moderator of the yearbook and student newspaper; a head coach in basketball, golf, and baseball; has done administrative work for more than 20 years; and currently serves as an assistant principal at Central Catholic.
Mr. Axe graduated summa cum laude from the EW Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in 1973, received a master’s degree in curriculum and supervision from Wright State University in 1979 and a specialist’s degree in education leadership from the University of Toledo in 1999.
Mr. Axe is president of the Northwest District Athletic Board, past president of the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Director’s Association (OIAAA), past president of the Wistert Chapter of the National Football Foundation and vice president of Arc in Lucas County.
