MAUMEE—The 15th Annual Congregational Nurse Project Seminar, “Changing Times in Faith Community Nursing: A Specialty Practice,” begins at 8 a.m. April 16 at the Church on Strayer in Maumee.
The conference is designed to provide parish nurses and health ministers the unique opportunity to hear two nationally known practitioners speak on the changing times in Faith Community Nursing.
Peggy Matteson is a practicing faith community nurse at the United Church of Christ in Middletown, R.I. She has taught health ministry preparation courses at Andover Newton Theological School for the past five years. She chaired the nationally appointed committee that reviewed and revised Faith Community Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice. Ms. Matteson has presented and published on this topic around the country.
Sharon Becker is a practicing faith community nurse and coordinator of the health ministries program at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. She has presented the concept of health ministries at the local, regional and national level, including health ministry annual conferences. Ms. Becker has experience in program development and marketing and has presented programs on development and marketing health ministry programs at the Health Ministry Association annual conference.
Parish Nursing was recognized as a specialty area in nursing by the American Nurses Association in 1999 and has continued to evolve and develop. The focus of parish nursing is the intentional care of the spirit. Case studies describing the nursing care provided by faith community nurses will be shared.
This conference will provide nurses with the opportunity to enhance their own practice and continue to prepare for certification.
