Oregon parish to celebrate its past, grow its ministries |

OREGON—St. Ignatius Parish in Oregon enters into the spring of 2008 with two major areas of focus.
First, it is in the midst of planning the parish’s 125th anniversary. Established in 1884 on Big Ditch Road in Momenee Town, St. Ignatius has grown into a Catholic community of 1,000 families.
An anniversary committee has been formed to plan a celebration to capture the history, accomplishments and spirit of 125 years of parish life. So far plans, though not yet final, include an opening Mass and reception in January 2009, a summer event in July and a closing Mass with the bishop in October.
The second focus is an ongoing effort to grow as a stewardship parish. The concept of stewardship as a way of life was introduced to the parishioners in the spring of 2006.
Thankfully, parishioners have opened their hearts to stewardship and the fruits of stewardship are evident in some new ministries that have taken root in our parish.
One of the new ministries, which began the week after Easter, is called Catholics Returning Home. This program is facilitated by a small core team and consists of six weekly sessions held twice a year after the Advent and Lenten seasons.
