Catholic Community Dinner Theatre to present ‘Nunsense’

LIMA—Tickets are on sale now for “Nunsense: The Mega Musical,” staged by the Catholic Community Dinner Theatre (CCD Theatre). The schedule includes performances Feb. 6-8 and Feb. 12-13 at the Lima Knights of Columbus Hall.

“Nunsense: The Mega Musical,” was written in 2008 by playwright Dan Goggin. Leading the local cast is Nicolle Merkel as Rev. Mother, Brenda Rizor as Sr. Hubert, Kelly Biese as Sr. Amnesia, Amanda Kuhlman as Sr. Leo and Patty McVey as Sr. Robert Anne.

Other cast members include Bill Hanz,  Sandy Monfort, Kitty Hanz, Catherine Kleffner, Caitlyn Merkel, Maria Hoffman and Sharon Laurent. Guest appearances are to be made by Father Stephen Blum, pastor of Lima St. Charles, and Father David Ross, pastor of Lima St. Rose and Lima St. John.

The buffet for the “Nunsense” performance includes Sr. Julia’s sweet and sour chicken, pasta marinara, burgundy beef with noodles, whipped potatoes, garden rice pilaf, two vegetables, salad bar, rolls and butter and an array of desserts paired with coffee, tea and milk. A cash bar is also to be available.

The purpose of CCD Theatre is to provide and promote inoffensive Catholic/Christian-value productions while using all Catholic artistic talent. As a non-profit organization, CCD Theatre donates profits from each production to a designated community charity. Profits from “Nunsense” are being donated to the Allen County Health Partners/Lima Community Health Center.

This is the second musical production for CCD Theatre. It staged “Godspell” in November 2008.

Mary Blanche Hengstler, executive artistic director of CCD theatre, is directing and producing the production. Catholics from both the Blessed Junipero Serra and St. George deaneries are participating.

Except for Feb. 8, doors open for all shows at 6 p.m. for dinner with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Doors open for the matinee, Feb. 8, at noon with the show beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for youth ages 5 to 13. Ticket prices include dinner, show and donation to Allen County Health Partners. Special rates are available for groups of 30 or more.
