TOLEDO—Several Central Catholic High School students and one teacher were chosen as finalists in the Toledo Museum of Art’s Ekphrastic Writing Contest.
They were honored May 21 at a reception, during which prizes were awarded and winners read their writings to the audience.
In the high school category of the contest, junior Katherine Eagle won first prize for her poem, senior Chloe Rose was a finalist, senior Brendan Kelly won second prize, senior Lauren Eckles and junior Courtney Rygalski tied for third prize, and seniors Krystal Dazey and Taylor Sawyer and juniors Bernie Iannone and Stephanie Koby received honorable mention.
In the adult category of the contest, CCHS English teacher Adele Dahlin received first prize for her poem.
The contest entries were part of the Visitor Voices program that Central Catholic students have participated in for the last five years. The program involves students writing poetry and prose in response to the art that they view at the museum, and many of their works are displayed on labels in the museum’s galleries beside the art that inspired them.
