Cathedral hosts Spanish pianist April 25 |

TOLEDO—Spanish pianist Joaquín Achúcarro is to perform April 25 at 3 p.m. at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2535 Collingwood Blvd.
His program is part of the Diocese of Toledo’s centenary year and is co-sponsored by the Association of Two Toledos. This Association has been active in promoting cultural and educational exchange between Spain and the United States for more 75 years.
At the age of 13, Mr. Achúcarro made his concert debut as the soloist in Mozart's D minor piano concerto with the orchestra of his hometown, Bilbao, Spain. After winning prizes in several international piano competitions his concert career began with his victory at the 1959 Liverpool International Competition leading to his London debut with the London Symphony Orchestra, for which he was awarded the Harriet Cohen Medal for Best Debut of the Year. He has since performed in 59 countries with 206 orchestras and 349 conductors, including Caludio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa and Simon Rattle.
Mr. Achúcarro has recorded extensively and his wide-ranging discography includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Schubert, Ravel, Debussy and Mussorgsky, prize winning discs of Granados' Goyescas and the piano works of de Falla.
He holds the specially endowed Joel Estes Tate Chair at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and is a professor at the International Summer Courses of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana.
