TOLEDO—Toledo Central Catholic High School junior Jason Mossing has been selected as an engineering aide with the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. This position is part of the Wright Scholar Research Assistant Program.

The program employs high school and college-bound students for 10 to 12 weeks during the summer under the guidance of a mentor who provides a research project to pursue. The project and team that Jason is to support is the Gotcha radar program. Gotcha radar offers the capability to scan an entire city from the air in any weather condition and detect ground movement of an object as small as a cockroach. At the end of the summer, the students are required to make a presentation to their peers and mentor.

As an engineering aide, Jason also is to participate in the University of Dayton Summer Science and Engineering Enrichment program, tour and attend workshops at Wright State University’s School of Engineering and School of Science and Mathematics, attend an Ohio State University electrical engineering workshop and listen to guest speakers on a variety of topics.

To be considered for this program, students must be interested in science and engineering and have a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. Difficulty of academic curriculum, extracurricular activities, demonstrated leadership, strong capabilities in science and math and a written essay are also taken into consideration.

Jason is enrolled in the CCHS International Baccalaureate program and is a member of the National Honor Society, wrestling team, and Chinese Club. He is also a Regents Scholar and a member of Sylvania St. Joseph.

Jason is interested in studying electrical engineering or computer science in college. He is the son of John and Kim Mossing of Sylvania.
