Central Catholic presents professional development week |

TOLEDO—Nearly 40 Toledo Central Catholic High School (CCHS) faculty members attended a professional development week June 9-13.
Joining them for two of the five days were 21 teachers from area middle schools including Maumee St. Joseph, Rossford All Saints, Sylvania St. Joseph and Toledo schools Blessed Sacrament, Gesu, Our Lady of Lourdes, Regina Coeli, Sacred Heart, St. Patrick of Heatherdowns, St. Pius X and St. Thomas.
The professional development week theme was “Exploration of New Horizons” and included academic workshops and social outreach.
“I think that hearing some of the information in the presentations was very insightful,” said Carla Deliman of Sacred Heart. “This will allow me to better understand why my students make some of the choices they make.”
Central Catholic teacher Christina Florence thought the week was one of the best professional development sessions she has ever attended.
“I like that the week had a theme of service and understanding,” she said. “It made every day feel more connected.”
The teachers attended presentations on building cognitive capacity, social justice and working with the poor, the Islamic faith and several technology workshops. The teachers also visited the Toledo Museum of Art, the Islamic Center of Toledo, two central city gardens involved with Toledo GROWS and Helping Hands of St. Louis.
The CCHS teachers participated in a service project at Helping Hands, organizing food, clothing and household donations.
This was the fourth year Central Catholic has offered a summer professional development workshop.
“High quality professional development at Central Catholic High School is a priority and an integral part of our school’s improvement plan,” said Marie Arter, CCHS director of curriculum.
