TOLEDO—The Heidelberg College Concert Choir, under the direction of Grant W. Cook III, performs March 9 at 4 p.m. at the Historic Church of St. Patrick in Toledo. The performance is free and open to the public.
The program includes work by Johann Ernst Eberlin, Heinrich Schutz, Franz Schubert, Kenneth Jennings, Morten Lauridsen, Bob Chilcott and René Clausen. In addition, the program features traditional settings of American hymns and spirituals.
Since its inception in 1938, the Heidelberg College Concert Choir has achieved the distinction of being one of the outstanding collegiate choral ensembles in the Midwest, touring extensively throughout the United States and Europe.
In his 11th year as conductor, Dr. Cook (class of ’89) continues to build upon the longstanding tradition of choral excellence at Heidelberg. Under his direction, the choir has performed at state and regional meetings of the American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference, premiered works by the prominent American composers Daniel E. Gawthrop and John V. Mochnick and appeared in concert at Washington National Cathedral.
In May 2008, the choir will embark on its first European tour in 30 years, with performances in and around Vienna, Salzburg, Munich and Heidelberg.
