Through Kohl’s donation, St. Vincent Children’s Hospital is able to continue its Kohl’s Kids in Action program, which aims to help area children make better choices about nutrition and physical activity by focusing on four key lifestyle needs: outdoor and active play, drinking adequate water, adequate sleep and healthy foods.

This is the third year the hospital has received a grant from Kohl’s Corporation’s Kohl’s Cares for Kids initiative.

“We are grateful to Kohl’s for their support of this local awareness campaign for kids in northwest Ohio,” says John Schaeufele, M.D., president of St. Vincent Mercy Children’s Hospital. “Our goal is to provide kids with the tools they need to live a healthy lifestyle and to make smart choices and stay active now and throughout their adult life.”

Throughout the next year, the hospital plans to host 12 community events for children and their parents to participate in to learn about the importance of healthy eating and how physical fitness can be fun and incorporated into daily routines.

“We appreciate Kohl’s generosity and the concern they are demonstrating for the community,” says Julie Majo, St. Vincent’s advocacy coordinator. “By making healthy choices, our hope is to create a better quality of life for our children and their families in northwest Ohio. We hope that by doing so we will then see a decrease in childhood obesity, diabetes and other related complications.”

Throughout the year, Kohl’s sells special Kohl’s Cares for Kids merchandise, with 100 percent of the net profits from the sale of these items benefiting health and educational opportunities for children in the communities Kohl’s serves. These items are available for purchase at Kohls.com and in Kohl’s stores.
