TOLEDO—Janell Lang has been named interim vice president of academic affairs at Mercy College of Northwest Ohio effective Aug. 1. Ms. Lang succeeds Martha Shouldis who has accepted an offer to become the president of St. Vincent’s College in Bridgeport, Conn.
Ms. Lang brings Mercy College a wealth of higher education experience, having been a leader in health care degree programming and development. She has served as dean of the School of Health Sciences for the Toledo and Findlay campuses of Owens Community College for 23 years until her retirement in December 2007.
“Since joining Mercy College in January as a program consultant, I have been welcomed and made to feel part of the Mercy family,” Ms. Lang says. “I am honored to serve Mercy College as interim vice president of academic affairs while a search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Shouldis is underway.”
“Janell is uniquely qualified to step into the vice president of academic affairs position,” says John Hayward, president of Mercy College. “She has been working here as a consultant the past few months, so she’s had the opportunity to get to know us and our mission and goals for the future.... Janell’s knowledge of health care education and industry trends is invaluable,” he adds.
