TOLEDO—For those seeking to attend a Mass celebrated according to the 1962 Roman Missal, Toledo Immaculate Conception is now offering it once a month.

Planned for the third Sunday of each month (except March), the Tridentine Mass begins at noon. The Masses are being offered after interest was expressed in the parish, says Father Paul Kwiatkowski, Immaculate Conception pastor.

Masses are scheduled for Feb. 17, April 20 and May 18. This spring, it will be determined whether there is enough interest to continue offering the Masses.

Immaculate Conception is located at 434 Western Ave. and may be reached at 419-243-1829 or toldarbyicc@sbcglobal.net.

In July 2007, Pope Benedict XVI announced restrictions would ease on the use of the Tridentine Mass, which predates the Second Vatican Council.

The Tridentine Mass had been allowed as a liturgical exception since 1984, but Catholics had to request permission from local bishops. The July decree altered the bishop’s role, maintaining his general oversight on liturgy but removing him from initial decisions on Tridentine Masses.
