TOLEDO—The ancient service of Tenebrae will be sung by the cathedral choir at 7:30 p.m. March 19 in Toledo Rosary Cathedral.

This annual event repeatedly draws large crowds to the cathedral to experience this unique service and is open to people of all faiths.

The choir sings from the triforium choir loft for this somber and reflective service of Holy Week. Traditional Latin motets of Palestrina, Victoria and Ingegneri, psalms and the Lamentations of Jeremiah are sung as the lights are gradually extinguished symbolizing the temporary triumph of the prince of darkness over the Light of the World. When all the cathedral is dark, a loud noise is heard suggesting the earthquake described in the biblical description of Jesus’ death on the cross.

The Cathedral Concert Series runs from October through April. This event is free and open to the public. Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral is located at 2535 Collingwood Blvd. at Islington Avenue. Secure, lighted parking is available. For more information contact Rosary Cathedral at 419-244-9575.
