TOLEDO—The Cathedral Concert Series presents Mary Towse-Beck in a solo piano concert Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. in the cathedral.
The concert, titled “Prelude to a Dance,” includes Prelude, Fugue and Variation by Cesár Franck, Mephisto Waltz No. 1 by Franz Liszt and works by Maurice Ravel and Frédéric Chopin.
Originally from Toledo, Ms. Towse-Beck began serious study of piano at the age of 15 with Jerome Rose at Bowling Green University. She continued her studies at Eastman School of Music, and later obtained a Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in piano performance (with distinction) at Indiana University, where she was also an associate instructor of piano.
She studied under several renowned teachers in the United States, including Rebecca Penneys, Edward Auer and James Tocco. In 1988, she moved to London and continued her studies with Norma Fisher and Benjamin Kaplan, while also establishing a large teaching studio. She resided in England for nearly 20 years where she continued to teach and perform as both soloist and chamber player.
Appearing as soloist, chamber player and accompanist in the United States, Europe and Australia, she has been acclaimed for her sensitivity, artistry and her sure command of the keyboard. She has been a featured artist on Australian national radio, and has won several scholarships and awards at various music festivals in the United States. Ms. Towse-Beck has also been a successful participant in international competition.
In 2007, she relocated with her husband and three children to Stratham, N.H. Soon after her arrival back in the States, she became a member of the Aliento Chamber Players and has been recently appointed a director. The ensemble regularly performs throughout New England.
The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering to support the Cathedral Concert Series will be taken. Ample parking is available. Rosary Cathedral is located at 2535 Collingwood Blvd.
