TOLEDO—A service of Advent Lessons and Carols begins at 3 p.m. Dec. 6 at Toledo Rosary Cathedral.
The program features the Cathedral Choir, led by cathedral music director and organist Paul Monachino. Scripture selections tracing the prophecies of Christ’s birth are to be read by cathedral parishioners. The service is led by Father Charles E. Singler, cathedral rector.
In the years since its inception at the cathedral this service has become an annual tradition for many. The late afternoon light filtering through the stained glass of the cathedral provides a fitting atmosphere.
The service begins with an evening thanksgiving prayer followed by six lessons from the Old Testament prophets culminating with the Gospel account of the Annunciation of Jesus’ birth to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Each scripture lesson is followed by an appropriate Advent anthem for the choir or carol for the congregation.
The service of lessons and carols is free and all are welcome. Rosary Cathedral is located at 2535 Collingwood Blvd. at Islington Avenue. Ample parking is available and the cathedral is handicap accessible. For more information contact Rosary Cathedral at 419-244-9575.
