TOLEDO—St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center has been awarded top performer status by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Premier Healthcare Alliance in a pay-for-performance project: Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) project.
Based on third-year results from the HQID project, St. Vincent ranked in the top 10 percent of hospitals participating in the project for overall quality in treating patients with heart failure and in the top 20 percent of hospitals in the project for treating patients with acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) and for successful outcomes via the coronary artery bypass graft.
“Providing outstanding patient care has always been our primary mission and we are pleased to participate in this project,” says Charla Ulrich, director of quality for St. Vincent. “Our participation and success in this project are a testament to our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of care, particularly in the area of cardiovascular disease.”
More than 250 hospitals across the country are participating in the HQID project, the first national project that looks at the quality of patient care via processes and outcome measures in five key clinical areas: acute myocardial infarction; heart failure; coronary artery bypass graft; pneumonia; and hip and knee replacement.
