TOLEDO—Beginning Feb. 3, Toledo area radio listeners can tune in a local station for two hours per week of Catholic radio programming. Annunciation Radio is to broadcast Catholic material each Sunday from noon until 2 p.m. on WTOD AM, “Supertalk” 1560.
The broadcasts are to be produced locally, combining syndicated programming with some local content. Possible shows and hosts include “Catholic Answers,” family psychologist Dr. Ray Guarendi, the current events show “Kresta in the Afternoon” and more. Ann Arbor’s Ave Maria Radio is assisting Annunciation Radio’s initial programming efforts.
“I’m very excited about it,” says Deacon Michael Learned, president of Annunciation Radio. “This will give our listeners a taste of what we will be broadcasting when we get on the air full time.”
Deacon Learned emphasizes the apostolate’s goal is to bring Catholic radio to the entire Toledo Diocese. Leasing time on an existing station gives Annunciation Radio much greater public exposure as it works to acquire one or more radio stations, he says
Annunciation Radio also plans to make its programs available as podcasts that can be downloaded from its Web site, www.annunciationradio.com.
Podcasting allows listeners to pick up radio programs at their convenience, regardless of the time and day the shows are heard on the air.
