TOLEDO—Auxiliary Bishop Shelton Joseph Fabre of the Archdiocese of New Orleans is to be the presider and homilist at the Black History Month Liturgy Feb. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Toledo St. Martin de Porres Church at 1119 W. Bancroft St.
Feb. 8, the fifth Sunday in ordinary time, is the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita, the patron saint of Sudan. Born in Darfur, Sudan, St. Josephine Bakhita is venerated as a modern African saint. She died Feb. 8, 1947 and was canonized by Pope John Paul II Oct. 1, 2000.
Those attending the Black History Month Liturgy are welcome to dress in cultural attire. A reception follows Mass.
