TOLEDO—Author and educator Sharon Draper visited Toledo Central Catholic High School (CCHS) Jan. 9 as the featured guest in the CCHS Reads program.

During her visit, Ms. Draper addressed the student body, met with the CCHS book club, signed copies of her book, “The Battle of Jericho” and met with teachers.

The CCHS Reads program, which began last school year, encourages students to read for fun. Teachers and students read the same book and it is incorporated into classroom lessons.

“The Battle of Jericho” was chosen this year for the CCHS Reads program because the novel reinforces the school-wide theme this year, “Respect.”

Ms. Draper has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year, is a four-time winner of the Coretta Scott King Literary Award and is a New York Times bestselling author.
