TOLEDO—Bishop Leonard P. Blair is to celebrate the second annual Red Mass at Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Cathedral Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
The sacrament of reconciliation will be available from 5:15-5:50 p.m. and a social hour and dinner follows immediately after the Mass at Msgr. Bernard E. Smith Hall on the cathedral campus. The cost of the dinner program is $35 per person.
Featured speaker at the dinner is Father David T. Link, former dean and professor emeritus at the University of Notre Dame Law School. Fr. Link was a partner with the Chicago law firm Winston and Strawn before accepting the position at Notre Dame and has earned awards for his outstanding service during the Kennedy administration. A scholar, he holds numerous academic and honorary degrees and was ordained after the death of his wife in 2008.
The Jack Schlageter Award, named in honor of the late attorney who was instrumental in the establishment and management of the diocese’s Court of Equity, will be presented after Fr. Link’s address.
The Red Mass, originating in the early church, traditionally is offered at the commencement of the judicial year to invoke the blessings of the Holy Spirit upon those in, and associated with, the legal profession.
