Convocation to celebrate anniversary of RCIA |

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The North American Forum on the Catechumentate convenes its 2008 International Convocation on Christian initiation Nov. 6-8, in Cleveland, to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and the 25th anniversary of the forum.
Under the theme “Handing on What We Have Received from the Lord,” more than 600 parish and diocesan ministry leaders throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as leaders from beyond North America, are expected to attend.
The convocation opens Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. with prayer and a welcome by Bishop Richard Lennon of Cleveland. The opening address, “Each Day the Church Gives Birth to the Church: Reflections on the Contemporary Ecclesial Context of Christian Initiation,” will be given by Richard Gaillardetz, professor of Catholic Studies at the University of Toledo and noted author.
Last convened in 2002, the North American Forum’s Convocation provides plenary sessions, breakouts, roundtable dialogues, resource exhibits and showcases focusing on the successful implementation of the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. Among the 35 presenters are Dominican Sister Catherine Dooley, Paul Turner, Christopher Walker and Bishop Gerald Wiesner of Prince George, British Columbia.
Several sessions are being offered in Spanish and Spanish translation assistance is to be available for all sessions. Session topics include evangelization, catechesis, liturgy, liturgical music, children and initiation, young adults and initiation, initiation ministry in Hispanic/Latino communities.
