Diocesan students win honors at State Science Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The 60th annual State Science Day for seventh- to 12th-grade science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students was held May 10 at The Ohio State University. Students representing schools from 65 counties exhibited their science research.

Out of 282 schools participating, Lima St. Charles Catholic School was one of only four schools to receive the Harold C. Shaw Memorial Outstanding School Award for having at least four students who each received a superior rating or having more than four projects with 80 percent or more earning a superior rating.

Students from 12 Catholics schools in the Diocese of Toledo qualified for the State Science Day competition. The schools are Bowling Green St. Aloysius; Lima St. Charles and St. Gerard; Norwalk Catholic School; Sylvania St. Joseph and Sylvanian Franciscan Academy; Toledo Central Catholic High School, Notre Dame Academy, Gesu, Little Flower and St. Patrick of Heatherdowns; and Whitehouse Lial School.

Sponsored by The Ohio Academy of Science, American Electric Power, The Ohio Environmental Education Fund and Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane, Inc., and hosted by The Ohio State University Office of Continuing Education, State Science Day is the academic equivalent of a state athletic championship and the top tier of one of the largest STEM education programs in the nation.
