LATROBE, Pa.—St. Vincent Seminary, in conjunction with the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology, is hosting a four-day workshop for priests, deacons and seminarians titled “Reading the Bible from the Heart of the Church: The Splendor of the Church.”
The conference is to be held at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pa., June 16-20, and features noted authors Dr. Scott Hahn; Dr. Brant Pitre of Loyola University in New Orleans; and Dr. John Bergsma of Franciscan University of Steubenville. Dr. Hahn teaches at St. Vincent Seminary.
“Reading the Bible from the heart of the church means reading it with the liturgy,” says Dr. Hahn, who also serves as president of the St. Paul Center. “Our workshop will emphasize the liturgical content and context of the Scriptures, with a special emphasis on the theology of the church.”
The four-day session offers clergy a time of prayer, contemplation and study in a leisurely but stimulating environment. “It’s a chance to meditate more deeply upon Scripture,” Dr. Hahn says. “They'll return to ministry refreshed, recharged, refilled.”
The June conference will be the third co-sponsored by St. Vincent Seminary and the St. Paul Center. One of last year’s participants comments: “This conference is the most important thing for my priesthood that I have done in many years. I feel I have been given tools to become first a more holy priest and then a better spiritual father.”
Another says: “I've been a priest for over 56 years and I’ve been to countless conferences, retreats and workshops. This one was by far and away the best.”
Full registration for the four-day event, which includes meals and lodging, is $525. The cost for seminarians with student ID is $250, and seminarian scholarships are available. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Call 724-532-5030 for details.
