TOLEDO—Franciscan Father Louie Vitale is to discuss “The Nonviolent Response to Terrorism” at Toledo Blessed Sacrament May 5 at 7 p.m.
Fr. Vitale is a co-founder of Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service, which fosters a more peaceful and just world thorough nonviolence education, community building and action.
After serving as an officer in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, Fr. Vitale converted to nonviolence and devoted his life to peace as a Franciscan priest. He was ordained in 1963.
At a time when most men are enjoying retirement, Fr. Vitale, 75, has placed himself in situations that carry the risk of physical danger or incarceration because of his ethics and morals.
He is touring the United States to talk about the five-month prison term he recently served for crossing the line and praying at Fort Huachuca, a military installation in Arizona where American intelligence officers are trained in “enhanced interrogation” tactics such as water boarding and other torture methods.
Pax Christi of Toledo Corpus Christi and the Tiffin Area Pax Christi are sponsoring Fr. Vitale’s presentation.
