TOLEDO—Father Robert J. Wilhelm, locally known for his years as a spiritual leader, theology professor and pastor of several parishes in the Diocese of Toledo, discusses “Whatever Happened to Teilhard?” March 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ursuline Center, 4035 Indian Rd. in Toledo.
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881–1955), French philosopher, Jesuit priest, paleontologist and geologist, set forth a sweeping account of the unfolding of the cosmos in his primary book, “The Phenomenon of Man.” Church superiors opposed his position and the Roman Holy Office denied publication of his work during his lifetime.
Fr. Wilhelm, ordained a priest in 1959, has served on faculties of Siena Heights College, Lourdes College, the former Mary Manse College and the former Holy Spirit Seminary of Toledo. His seminary education was at Sacred Heart Seminary, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Meinrad Major Seminary and Mt. St. Mary of the West Major Seminary. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy and a licentiate and doctorate in sacred theology. Fr. Wilhelm is now “blissfully retired.”
The lecture is $20 and includes lunch. For more information or to register, call the Ursuline Convent offices at 419-536-9587.
