TOLEDO—Alex DePue, internationally acclaimed champion fiddler and current band member for legendary Rock guitarist Steve Vai, performs at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at Toledo’s Stranahan Theater.
During the concert Mr. DePue, who received most of his classical training at Bowling Green State University, plans to pay tribute to the deceased musicians, former Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) concert-master Dr. Paul Makara and former TSO principal violist Dr. Bernard Linden, both of whom died this year.
After training for decades with both of these artists, Mr. DePue won a concerto competition in 1986, entitling him to three performances as soloist with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. Later the same year he won another competition securing a performance at New York City’s Carnegie Hall.
Mr. DePue is planning an eclectic evening of music for the concert and is to introduce his special guest, Miguel De Hoyos, a flamenco/classical guitarist from Monterrey, Mexico. They are to perform selections from their recently released CD, “Underground Whispers.”
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at the Stranahan Theater box office.
