First, we have over 50 percent of Catholics elect a president who voted three times to make it illegal to provide medical attention to babies of “botched” abortions (because it was the intent of the mother to kill that child) and who, on his first days in office, has revoked a law that prohibited American tax money to aid foreign family planning which used abortion as its main method of “planning.” NOW, the most popular Catholic university in the country has invited him to be the speaker at this year’s commencement exercises.
What is happening to our Catholic faith? I am incensed that a Catholic university such as Notre Dame could even consider a man whose lack of respect for human life is so evident. It makes no difference that inviting the president to speak is their “tradition.” I though it was the “tradition” of the Catholic church to uphold the sanctity of life.
And we wonder why there have been so many people leaving our church! Whatever has happened to the beliefs Catholicism has always upheld? It becomes increasingly difficult to remain faithful to a church that apparently is so rapidly abandoning its beliefs. God have mercy on us.
