Andersons named northwest Ohio’s outstanding philanthropists |

TOLEDO—The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Northwest Ohio Chapter presented Richard “Dick” and Frances “Fran” Anderson with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award at the 21st Annual National Philanthropy Day Luncheon Nov. 12.
Nominated by the University of Toledo, the Andersons have touched countless lives across northwest Ohio and beyond through their involvement with The University of Toledo, The Toledo Symphony, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Community Foundation, United Way of Greater Toledo (Alexis de Tocqueville Society), Toledo Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Public Broadcasting Foundation of Northwest Ohio, Lucas County Children Services Board, St. Luke's Hospital, Ohio Agricultural Research & Development Center, St. Ursula Academy, St. John’s Jesuit High School and numerous other organizations.
They have held leadership positions with these organizations, given their time to direct service and made significant financial contributions to these and other organizations across the region.
Robert “Bob” Savage was honored with the Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award. The University of Toledo (UT) nominated him because he was a key player in UT’s ability to meet the Kresge Challenge Grant that supported constructing and equipping the Savage & Associates Complex for Business Learning and Engagement.
The Outstanding Foundation Award was presented to The Clement O. Miniger Memorial Foundation, nominated by Lourdes College. Over the last 23 years, tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships have been provided to the students at Lourdes College from The Clement O. Miniger Memorial Foundation. Many of the students are minority; 60 percent are first generation college students; and the majority of scholarship recipients have serious financial issues to address.
There are many community organizations that have benefited from the Miniger Foundation’s philanthropic efforts: Advocates for Basic Legal Equality/ Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Bowling Green State University, Black Swamp Conservancy, Boys and Girls Clubs, Erie Shores Council Boy Scouts of America, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Junior Achievement, Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges, Sight Center, Toledo Area Humane Society, Toledo Botanical Garden, Toledo Day Nursery, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Opera, The Toledo Symphony, Toledo School for the Arts, Toledo Zoo, The University of Toledo, Valentine Theatre, Victory Center, YMCA, The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, Toledo Hearing and Speech, and Toledo Children’s Hospital.
The Award for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy was given to Adam Haynes. Bowling Green State University (BGSU) nominated him because, as a senior education major at BGSU, Mr. Haynes has developed a program to promote hunger awareness on college campuses. Adam, a Marion, Ohio, native, was nominated by BGSU in recognition of his commitment to community service and civic engagement.
Nominated by BGSU and receiving the Outstanding Professional Fundraiser award, Marcia Sloan Latta currently serves as interim vice president for university advancement/president and CEO of the BGSU Foundation, Inc.
WTVG 13 ABC was nominated to receive the Outstanding Media Outlet Award by the Lucas County Colorectal Cancer Coalition (LCCCC).
National Philanthropy Day is supported by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Northwest Ohio chapter and honors the generosity of the millions of men and women around the world who donate billions of dollars to their favorite charities annually.
