TOLEDO—Central City Ministry of Toledo (CCMT) Catholic School celebrates education with its annual Urban All American Celebration (UAA) May 4 at 7 p.m. at The Pinnacle in Maumee.

The fundraiser honors graduates of Toledo Catholic central city schools who have achieved extraordinary success in their personal and/or professional lives. Proceeds from the event provide tuition assistance to CCMT students.

Christine S. Beck, president and CEO of Gesu School in Philadelphia, is the keynote speaker. Ms. Beck has led Gesu, an independent Catholic elementary school, since 2003, transforming it into a national model for inner-city education. In a neighborhood with a graduation rate of approximately 50 percent, more than 90 percent of Gesu’s graduates earn their high school diplomas within four years.

This year’s UAA honorees are:

Virginia Conlisk Roberts, a 1965 graduate of Rosary Cathedral and St. Ursula Academy who is now chief operating officer of The International Institute of Boston.

Dr. Patrice McClellan, a 1990 graduate of Rosary Cathedral and Central Catholic High School who now works at Lourdes College as an assistant professor and director of the Master’s of Organizational Leadership program.

The CCMT Service Award is presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to Catholic education in the central city.  This year’s recipient is Notre Dame Sister Mary Lynda Snyder.

Sr. Snyder serves as principal of Defiance Holy Cross Catholic School. Her commitment to a faith-based education for children of all socioeconomic levels led her to teach in Toledo at St. Ann, St. Michael and St. James and to serve as principal at St. Hyacinth, St. Martin de Porres and St. Michael, all former CCMT schools.

Central City Ministry of Toledo operates two Catholic elementary campuses, Rosary Cathedral on Collingwood in the Old West End and Queen of Apostles off Broadway in the Historic Old South End.  CCMT provides a faith-based education to 450 children, many of whom are considered “at risk.” The CCMT campuses provide clear goals and expectations, strict discipline, and strong academics in a safe and secure environment.

The UAA is sponsored in part by Mercy with CEO Steven L. Mickus serving as honorary chairman. Individual tickets can be purchased for $100, and sponsorship tables are still available. For more information or to order tickets contact Deb Marinelli at 419-244-6711, ext. 220 or dmarinelli@toledodiocese.org.
