Four Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati celebrate jubilees |

60 years Sister Patrice Vales entered the Sisters of Charity Sept. 5, 1949. She spent her first 35 years as a Sister of Charity teaching in Ohio and Maryland. Sister also was pastoral minister from 1986 to 2005, and retired in 2006. Currently Sr. Vales lives near the Mount St. Joseph Motherhouse where she follows the motto “be of service to all.”
50 years Sister Martha Jean Gallagher, formerly Sister Catherine Maureen, entered the order Sept. 8, 1959. In the Diocese of Toledo she taught at Lima St. Charles and at a migrant farm worker school in Findlay. Outside of the diocese, she taught, worked with the United Farm Workers in Salinas, Calif., and founded and directed Connelly Home for the Mentally Retarded, a group home for women with mental illness and developmental disabilities. Additionally, she was a part-time staff member of the wellness center at the College of Mount St. Joseph (Cincinnati) and began working with Sisters on mental health issues in Mother Margaret Hall nursing facility at Mount St. Joseph, where she is currently in ministry.
Sister Mary Alice Stein, formerly Sister Anne Robert entered the religious community Sept. 8, 1959. She was born in Tiffin and later moved to Lima, where she attended St. Rose School and Lima Central Catholic High School. She taught at schools in Michigan and then Carroll High School in Dayton, where she continues to teach.
Sister Joan Clare Stewart entered the Sisters of Charity Sept. 8, 1959, after being taught by sisters of the order at Lima St. Rose and later graduating from Lima Central Catholic High School. She taught or was a principal at schools in Ohio. She is now pastoral associate at St. Mary and St. Boniface parishes in Piqua.
