CAREY—The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey is hosting its third Indian Heritage Day June 14.
Confessions begin at 10:30 a.m. and are followed by a Syro-Malankara Mass at noon in the upper basilica, celebrated by Father Shaji Thomas. The liturgy includes prayers, songs and chants of great beauty and solemnity. Colorful vestments, incense and bells are also an essential part of the Syro-Malankara liturgy.
Additional Masses are to be held at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. At 2:30 p.m., there is an outdoor rosary procession and devotions. The day concludes with prayers for healing with the relic of the True Cross.
The shrine cafeteria is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and picnic tables are available for those wanting to pack a lunch.
