A story in the The Blade (Toledo) on Aug. 3, 2009, contained an inaccurate point regarding mediation settlements made between the Diocese of Toledo and victims of clergy sexual abuse, incorrectly reporting that families of victims must agree not to talk as part of their settlements.
As a clarification, consistent with the 2002 Dallas Charter for the Protection of Children and current diocesan policy, the Diocese of Toledo does not require victims of clergy sexual abuse to agree that victims and their families cannot talk as part of their mediation settlements. To the contrary, the diocese has agreed that it will not disclose the identity of the victim or the terms of their mediation agreements, but it has not restricted the victims from talking about their agreements as they choose.
The diocese encourages anyone who believes that they have been abused by church personnel to report it to the local civil authorities and to the Diocesan Case Manager, Mr. Frank DiLallo, 419-244-6711.
