TOLEDO—A new program that aims to help Catholic men deepen their faith and develop as leaders is coming to the Diocese of Toledo.
The program, called “That Man is You!” begins Sept. 25 and covers “the gamut of everything in men’s spirituality,” according to Tadhg Farrell, coordinator of Catholic Men’s Fellowship for the Diocese of Toledo.
Participants meet weekly for fellowship and a short audio-visual presentation followed by discussion on how the topic relates to their lives. According to the official program website, www.thatmanisyou.org, the meetings are designed to give men the opportunity to receive and apply relevant information to issues facing men today.
“I think there’s a lot of men who are just kind of left out there, that just think, ‘I know I need to do something, but I’m not quite sure what to do,’ ” says Mr. Farrell. “They realize that their families are being destroyed by the society — the pornography, the violence — and really want to do something. And this gives them the basis to become spiritually awakened to what needs to be done.”
Developed in Houston in 2004,
That Man is You! has since spread to Catholic parishes across the United States. Mr. Farrell says this is the first time it is to be presented in Ohio, and men from any Catholic parish may participate.
The program is divided into two, 13-week sessions. The fall semester is dedicated to developing a vision of man fully alive while the spring semester is dedicated to becoming “that man.”
Meetings are to be held at Toledo St. Catherine, 4555 North Haven Ave., on Saturdays from 6 to 7:30 a.m. The early time slot “allows men to come to this and not take time away from the family or other important aspects of life,” explains Mr. Farrell, who is serving as the moderator for the program.
That Man is You! is being offered under the direction of Catholic Men’s Fellowship, a program of the Diocese of Toledo’s Secretariat of Evangelization, Catechesis and Lifelong Formation.
There is no charge to participate, though Mr. Farrell said two freewill collections are to be taken during the course of the year to help defer the cost of materials.
