Of her appointment, Dr. Monaghan says, “I am from Sandusky, am an educator and community involved individual. It is important to know a community’s past and present in order to plan for a viable future. It is a gift to be able to bring my experience and knowledge back to my alma mater and to give back to Sandusky Central Catholic School.”

She adds, “I believe the students need to be our main focus in the decisions we make and the environment we create. It is of the utmost importance that we address each student’s spiritual, social-emotional, physical and intellectual needs to maximize growth. With God at the center of each day, we will move forward and tackle the obstacles that may come our way. Catholic education provides the foundation for students in establishing their role in life.”

Dr. Monaghan brings to the position well-rounded educational experiences. She has been a classroom teacher, a coordinator for staff development, gifted education and testing, a principal and a professor at the University of Toledo where she taught undergraduate and graduate education courses including an online course. Her professional licenses include certification as superintendent, assistant superintendent, elementary principal and supervisor.

Her extensive involvement in the Sandusky community includes past president of Kiwanis Club of Sandusky Bay, past president and alum of L.E.A.D.S. (Leadership Enrichment and Development in Sandusky, now known as Leadership Erie County) and president of Child Abuse Prevention.

She is also a member of Zonta and the American Business Women’s Association and has been involved with The Volunteer Center, The Merry-Go-Round Museum, Camp Fire Board, The Sandusky Children’s Science Museum and the Downtown Development Committee: July 4th Celebration.

Dr. Monaghan is also active in the Catholic community, serving on the church finance committee, hosting a capital improvement drive, teaching CCD (now known as PSR) to high school students and serving as a sponsor in the RCIA program.

Dr. Monaghan lives in Sandusky with her husband, Erie County Commissioner Bill Monaghan.
