This three-day global education simulation experience allows students in grades six through 12 to learn about the complete operations of the United Nations and its role as the world’s largest international peacekeeping and humanitarian organization.

Through the process of role-playing, students become delegates of a selected nation in order to write about, present and debate issues affecting the nations and peoples of the world. Additionally, students present culturally-based talent, participate in global education contests and debate current issues from the agenda of the United Nations.

SMCC sent 32 student delegates representing five nations with three officers serving in this year’s session. Individual honors awarded to SMCC students included:

Runner-up in the Peace Essay contest, Alissa Widman, for her essay on Pope John Paul II, Runner-up in the Current Events Quiz went to Michael Gallagher and senior Eric McLaughlin won a Leadership Award.

The students representing the nation of Rwanda won an award for the Best Resolution. Those students are: Michelle Boone, Liz Davis, Alex Goodrich, Ellen Larsen, Eric McLaughlin, Megan Rhodes, Bryan Schafer and Alissa Widman.

The three students who served as officers this year were Jackie DeChant, Peter Dorski and Amanda Winters. Three other students were elected to serve as officers for the 2010 Convention. They are Rachel Bourne, Rebecca Cullen and Morgan Linden.
