MARBLEHEAD—The Joint Vocation Committee of Port Clinton Immaculate Conception and Marblehead St. Joseph sponsored a vocation night for the youth in Marblehead Oct. 28, “Priesthood Sunday.”

Young people and adults gathered to hear Jesuit Brother Jim Boynton, vocation director for the Detroit province of the Society of Jesus, tell of his vocational journey that took him to India and other places around the world.

Bro. Boynton challenged the youth to pay attention to what they are good at now, and he encourage them to become involved in the ministries currently available to them such as singing in the choir, helping at the food pantry and other works of service.

Other adults commented on their choices of vocations, as well. A representative spoke about religious life, priesthood, married life and single life.

Bro. Boynton also spoke with fifth- and sixth-grade students from Port Clinton Immaculate Conception School. He urged the students “to do what sets your heart on fire” and to use their gifts and talents to serve others as Jesus did. He also treated the students to songs he played on his guitar and violin including “The Unicorn Song,” “Make This Garden Grow” and “The Bear Song.”

Serra International, an organization promoting vocation awareness and prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, designated Oct. 28 as Priesthood Sunday.
