TIFFIN—The fifth annual Mercy Tiffin Hospital Managerial Excellence Award was presented to Bernie Steinmetz during a luncheon Dec. 21.
Mr. Steinmetz, manager of development and donor relations, was nominated by Nichol Hohman, manager of physician relations.
“For the past 29 years, Bernie has significantly contributed his time, efforts and knowledge to the hospital and the community,” says Ms. Hohman. “His devotion to connect with people and strive for growth for himself and others is evident in his strong relationships with employees, donors, volunteers, physicians, patients and the community.”
Mr. Steinmetz is a member of multiple service clubs and has served as past chair of Kiwanis. In 2010, he was the chairperson of the Seneca County United Way campaign. Mr. Steinmetz also helps organize multiple charity events each year, including the Walter A. Daniel, MD Golf Outing, Riehm’s Farm Pumpkin Contest, The Teddy Bear Ride, Relay for Life and the Heart Walk.
“Bernie is an instrumental part of his family as a devoted husband, son and son-in-law,” said Ms. Hohman. “He is an awesome mentor for not only his kids, but also his nieces and nephews.”
He is a life-long resident of Tiffin, where he resides with his wife, Shelly. They have two children, Brittany and Ryan.
Hospital managers are nominated by their peers based on their ability to make a difference both inside Mercy Tiffin Hospital and in the community. Other criteria include accountability as a leader, growth in their profession, being a high achiever, enthusiasm and serving as a role model for others to emulate.
Managers nominated in 2010 include: Dave Gardner, pharmacy manager, Pam Kim, laboratory manager, Lori Myers, outpatient clinic manager, and Lecia Wadsworth, education department manager.
