TIFFIN—Mercy Tiffin Hospital announced the creation of a Mercy Cancer Center at Tiffin.

This $1.35 million investment is to consolidate all oncology programs into one community cancer center campus by developing and connecting a new medical/oncology infusion clinic to the existing Radiation Therapy Center. Construction is planned to start in this spring with completion in the fall.

“Successfully fighting cancer takes a comprehensive, well-coordinated approach,” said Dale Thornton, president and CEO of Mercy Tiffin Hospital. “We are committed to providing state-of-the-art cancer services, while easing fears and focusing on the needs of each individual person.”

With the construction of a cancer center, all cancer-related treatments and services are to be in one location, with free parking and accessibility for people with disabilities.

“Patients visiting Mercy Tiffin Hospital today for cancer treatment already receive compassionate care,” said Mr. Thornton. “However, Tiffin is lacking a central location encompassing the multiple needs of cancer patients. Bringing the medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pharmacists, nurses and other care-givers and support staff together, in a single location, is ideal. The patient’s experience will be enhanced by access to comprehensive treatment programs in one clinical facility.”

The new Medical Oncology/Infusion Center will provide multiple accommodations in the community. Custom-tailored chemotherapy, biotherapies, side-effect management, 3-D conformal radiation, Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), transfusions, special IVs, clinical trials, biologic response modifiers, prostate seed implant and a CT simulator are to be available to patients.

Coyle Funeral HomeMercy Cancer Center at Tiffin is to combine the existing state-of-the-art radiation therapy services and the new medical oncology/infusion services into one location to offer comprehensive cancer treatment.

The center is to feature 10 infusion rooms, an oncologist office and exam space. Point-of-care laboratory testing and an on-site pharmacy, massage therapy treatment and a retail boutique will allow cancer patients to receive all necessary treatment, testing and medications in one location.

The cancer center is to offer a Lymphedema clinic to provide personalized treatment and support groups that will have the opportunity to meet in a comfortable setting to share their experiences. As the cancer center continues to grow, the hope is to include a special healing garden, which will be available to patients and families.
