TIFFIN—Tiffin Calvert Catholic Schools, St. Joseph and St. Mary campuses, organized a fundraiser called “Dimes for Diabetes” to benefit diabetes patients in the Tiffin area through Mercy Hospital of Tiffin’s Diabetes Education program.

Contributions were collected — a dime at a time — by the students to support Mercy’s efforts to educate students and their families about diabetes.

A check in the amount of $511.80 was presented to Janet Dickerson, diabetes education coordinator at the hospital, after Ms. Dickerson spoke to Mary Leibengood’s fourth-grade class at the St. Joseph campus.

“I am pleased that the teachers and students realized the importance of helping those dealing with diabetes in our community and chose our program to help meet these needs,” Ms. Dickerson said. “I am very impressed with their thoughtfulness and generosity — that is a lot of dimes!”

Barbara Goshe, Calvert Catholic Schools nurse, suggested a possible use for the donation could be to provide diabetes information to area schools and assist students with diabetes and their families cope with the disease. Ms. Dickerson is compiling a comprehensive packet of information for this purpose.
