Three Mercy Tiffin employees receive Jefferson Awards

TIFFIN—Three employees of Mercy Hospital of Tiffin have been given Jefferson Awards for Public Service, a national honor bestowed on individuals for their achievements and contributions through public and community service.

The three honorees are Ben Bishop, from nutrition services; Catherine Gase, a registered nurse in the emergency department; and Bernie Steinmetz, manger of development and public relations.

Mr. Bishop was nominated for community involvement with his church, Trinity United Church of Christ, Seneca County Relay for Life, and for participation in the Seneca County Relay for Life, Skywarn, Sandusky River Clean Up, Allen’s Biathlon, 4-H, the Clinton Township Ox Roast and Toys for Tots.

Ms. Gase received the award for work with FISH Food Pantry and facilitating a monthly religious breakfast at Tiffin Calvert High School.

Mr. Steinmetz was nominated because of his volunteer involvement with the Tiffin Kiwanis Club, Tiffin St. Mary Church, Seneca County Heart Walk, Seneca County Relay for Life, New Riegel Science Fair, Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure, Seneca County Public Library and baseball coaching.
