Bishop’s Cross award winner named at Notre Dame Academy |

TOLEDO—Notre Dame Academy (NDA) class of 2009 graduate Maureen McQuillan received the Bishop’s Cross. This is the highest honor bestowed upon any high school student in the Diocese of Toledo. The Bishop’s Cross is given to a student from each Catholic high school in the diocese with a high grade point average in religion, who manifests excellence in character, service and leadership. Maureen is a member of the NDA Pastoral Core Team and has participated in the annual Christmas Appalachia Service Trip to Kentucky. Her Christian service also includes Girl Scout camp counselor, zoo volunteer, peer tutor and helper at both the Seagate Food Bank and the Salvation Army. She is also involved in the Global Concerns and Spiritual Activities Committees.

She is a National Merit Commended Student and achieved a cumulative “A” average during her four years. She participated in the People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., the Teen Institute Leadership Team and “Leaders Unite” Youth Conference. She is president and founder of the Irish Club. She was in Knitting Club, Math Club, Environmental Club, Spanish Club, Horse Club, Current Events Club and Pep Club. Her honors include National Youth Forum of Medicine, NDA Woman of Service Award, Honors Scholarship, Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Outstanding Young Volunteer of the Year Award, National Honor Society and the honor roll. She is an active horsewoman riding at Stonehaven Farms and competing in the MHJA and USEF horse circuits. She plans to attend the University of Notre Dame this fall to study psychology. She is the daughter of Dr. Anne Conklin and Dr. Mark McQuillan. She is a member of Toledo Christ the King and attended Ladyfield Elementary School.
