Notre Dame Academy wins All Sports Award for fifth year in a row

TOLEDO—Notre Dame Academy (NDA) earned the City League All Sports Award for the fifth year in a row. The City League honor is based on points accumulated for the women’s sports of basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, track, softball and volleyball.

For 2007-2008 season, the cross country, tennis and volleyball teams were city champions. The golf was city league runner up. Basketball and softball teams were in the final four and qualified for the city championship tournament.

Twenty-four NDA athletes earned First Team, All City Honors in basketball, cross country, golf, softball, tennis, track and volleyball. NDA golfer Heather Jorgensen ’08 was City League Championship Medalist. Volleyball player Jordon Goad ’08 was City League Player of the Year.

Volleyball varsity coach Scott Mattera was City League/District Coach of the Year, and varsity golf coach Dan Lancaster was Northwest District Coach of the Year.

All State Athletes were Tara Majdalani ’08 and Meredith Morse ’08 for tennis, Ms. Goad for volleyball and Patrice Lalor ’08 for basketball.

In addition to having top athletic honors, Notre Dame Academy had 40 students recognized as All Academic athletes and four earned All State Academic honors.

Although last year was an outstanding season for the Eagles, this year looks like an exciting one as well according to Pam Edgell, athletic director.

“Notre Dame Academy has always been a leader in academics and athletics. All our athletes have spirit and work hard whether it’s on the playing field or in the classroom to achieve their own personal best,” she says. “We are proud and humbled to earn the All Sports Award for the fifth time, an honor very few schools achieve, and are striving to keep it for a sixth year.”
