TOLEDO—St. Ursula Academy has added a new 20-by-12 foot putting green to its golf-training regimen.
The putting green allows for practice from 3 feet to 18 feet with variable breaks. Its installation gives St. Ursula golfers the opportunity to practice year round.

“Putting is something that requires constant vigilance and the development of a pure stroke,” say Jim McGowan, St. Ursula golf coach.
“Confidence is critical,” he adds. “The opportunity to practice every day, all year, allows the team to develop its putting strokes and internalize the confidence needed to elevate their games.”
Putting greens such as the one installed retail at about $4,000 but thanks to the donation of labor from Mr. McGowan and his helpers, lumber donated by 84 Lumber and the supply of the turf known as PAR 1 by The Putter’s Edge, the putting green was very affordable. The PAR 1 surface, which rolls at a stimp or speed measurement of 12, is a custom product for the exact purpose for use on putting greens.
The St. Ursula Academy golf program, one of the best teams in Ohio with 10 State Championship appearances in the last 12 years and the only one to win the City League Golf Championship since its inception, hopes to become even better with this tool.
In addition to the new putting green, the school announced it is offering girls in incoming grades 5 through 8 a two-day golf camp, June 25 and 26 at The Claire Batista Golf Academy at The Legacy. For more information contact St. Ursula Academy at 419-329-2225 or register at www.toledosua.org.
