St. Ursula crew brings home national championship

TOLEDO—A crew from Toledo St. Ursula Academy won a gold medal and a second team advanced to the semi-finals during the 75th annual Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship in Princton, N.J.

The Women’s Junior Eight team won the gold with a time of 5:41.737, besting the second place team by 4 seconds. The Women’s Freshman Eight team advanced to the semi-finals.

This is the second Junior Eight National Championship for St. Ursula in three years, and two of this year’s rowers were younger sisters of the prior winners.

The freshmen team members are Macy Szalkowski, Sydney Kanjuparamban, Grace Conboy, Olivia Withrow, Kinder Miller, Alexis Zervas, Veronica DeAnda, Emily Callan and Libby Smith.
