TOLEDO—Six seniors at Toledo St. Ursula Academy have been recognized for their academic achievement.

Sisters Amelia and Valeri Wolf, of Toledo, have been designated as semifinalists in the 46th annual National Achievement Scholarship Program. They have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 800 Achievement Scholarship awards, worth approximately $2.6 million, to be offered next spring.

The National Achievement Scholarship Program, conducted by the National Merit Scholarship Program, is a privately financed academic competition that operates without government assistance. More than 160,000 high school juniors from all parts of the United States requested consideration in the 2010 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2008 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Haley Herman of Sylvania and Rachel Kalinoski of Toledo have been named semifinalists in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship program. SUA seniors, Anne Marie King of Ottawa Hills, and Erin Sheehan of Toledo have been named as National Merit Commended Students.

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test — a test which serves as an initial screening of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year — and by meeting published program entry/participation requirements.
