TOLEDO—The inaugural Summerstock program of St. Ursula Academy presents “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” Aug 13-15 at the school’s North Gym.

SUA Summerstock was created by students looking to delve further into the creative process of theatrical production. Members of Summerstock include students from six Toledo-area high schools. In addition to singing, dancing and acting, the students have undertaken all the “behind-the-scenes” work, including stage direction, choreography, advertising and fundraising.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” is a musical that centers on a fictional spelling bee set in a geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School. Six quirky adolescents compete in the bee, run by three equally-quirky grown-ups. This feel-good story illustrates that winning isn’t everything and that losing doesn’t make you a loser.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 and 14 and 2 p.m. Aug. 15. Tickets are $6 for adults and $8 for children.

Members of Summerstock include: Lauren Burns, Mia Gladieux, Eileen Perry, Gabby Trojanowski, Veronica Zimmerman and Samantha Zoepke from St. Ursula Academy; Tyler Clark and Doug Jensen from Toledo St. Francis de Sales High School; Billy Barabino, Mark Beyer, Jacob Kinder and Mark Krasula from Toledo St. John’s Jesuit High School; Anne Claza from Toledo Notre Dame Academy; Trevor Dorner from Perrysburg High School and Sara Klein, Taylor Sawyer and Chris Zavac from Toledo Central Catholic High School.

The SUA Summerstock moderator is KC Kenney, who teaches advanced placement chemistry at St. Ursula.
