CAREY—The Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey is hosting a “Mass for Hope and Healing” Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.

The Mass includes prayers for breast cancer victims and survivors and their loved ones. People of all faiths are welcome to participate.

Following the Mass, visitors are invited to participate in special prayers for healing. The evening concludes with the sacrament of the anointing of the sick and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

According to Order of Friars Minor Conventional Father John Raphael Hadnagy, rector of the shrine, the friars decided to focus one of their many healing Masses on breast cancer because of the widespread nature of the disease.

“Almost everyone has been touched by this disease,” says Fr. Hadnagy. “For many women and their families, prayer provides the strength they need to cope with treatment or hope for a cure.”
