FOSTORIA—Cory Baker and Whitney McAfee, both graduating seniors of Fostoria St. Wendelin High School, were named Bishop’s Cross honorees during commencement exercises May 23.

The Bishop’s Cross is the highest distinction that a Catholic high school can bestow on a graduating young man and woman. This unmerited accolade is awarded to two students who demonstrate strong moral character, witness to the Christian faith and values of the Gospel, service to parish and school communities and excellence in the study of religion.

Cory and Whitney were each given a medal and took turns reading a special prayer.

Cory, the son of Brian and Cindra Baker, is a member of St. Wendelin Parish and was class valedictorian. He is a member of the National Honor Society, served on student council and participated in cross country, basketball, track and choir. Cory was also active in Men’s Discernment, Teens for Life, Campus Ministry and Quiz Bowl.

Whitney, daughter of George and Sheila McAfee, is a member of Findlay St. Michael the Archangel. She was a member of student council and received the Outstanding Senior Band Member Award. Whitney was in the Woman’s Discernment Group and was a band and choir member and statistician for the girls’ basketball team.
