LEIPSIC—Notre Dame Sister Mary Ellen Schroeder, principal of Leipsic St. Mary, kissed a pig in front of students on Valentine’s Day to fulfill a promise made during Catholic Schools Week.
Fourth-graders and sixth-graders competed during the week to see who could raise the most money for the missions, with the provision that the teacher of the class that raised the most in five days would kiss a pig. Sr. Schroeder promised she would also kiss the pig if the students collected a combined total of more than $300.
The collection topped $400, with Deb Barney’s sixth-grade class raising $184.29 and Mr. Fruchey’s fourth-grade class raising $232.06. Both teacher and principal kept their promise and kissed a pig, to the delight of the students.
