MANSFIELD—Michael and Carol Chambers, Mary Frasz, John and Terry Heringhaus, Michael and Sharon Santoro and James and Carol Sgambellone have been selected as the 2008 inductees into the Mansfield St. Peter Hall of Fame.

These newly selected members are to be honored Nov. 15 at the Mansfield Masonic Temple with a dinner at 6:15 p.m. and an induction program to follow. Dinner music is to be provided by St. Peter High School junior Nicholas Capaldo and Patti Kastelic is the emcee for the program.
Admission is $14 per adult and $7 per child age 10 and younger.
Reservations can be made by sending the names of those attending with a check made payable to St. Peter Parish to Kathy Morris, Marketing/PR Director, St. Peter’s Parish Center, 104 W. First St., Mansfield, OH 44902.
No tickets will be mailed; names will be placed on the reservation list for check-in that evening. Reservation deadline is Nov. 7.
Inductees Michael and Carol Chambers are both natives of Mansfield and are St. Peter High School (SPHS) graduates. They have three children, all alumni of St. Peter, and three grandchildren, two enrolled at St. Peter School. Mrs. Chambers, a full-time mother and full-time volunteer, began as a cafeteria helper, room mother and field trip driver and helped initiate what is now the Christmas Classic.
Mrs. Chambers’ community activities have included Ohio Reads, the Rehab Center, Oak Hill, Richland Performing Arts, Children’s Theatre Program and the Women’s Committee of the Mansfield Symphony. She is a founding board member of the National Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry Cares.
A founding member of the St. Peter Soccer Club, Mr. Chambers’ volunteer career at the school started with the grade school basketball and soccer programs and continued in girls’ high school basketball and soccer. He is past chair of the education commission, served on the Day Care Formation Committee, Franciscan Activity Center Building Committee and Advisory Committee for Spartan Fields. He currently chairs the Dunn Foundation.
His community activities have included service to Richland Performing Arts capital campaign, Mansfield Art Center, and Mohican Sailing Club. Now president of J&B Acoustical, he is past president of the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry International and current board member of Richland Trust and MT Business System. Together, he and his wife sponsor children through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.

Inductee Mary Frasz was born in Dayton, and her family moved to Mansfield in 1927. She graduated from St. Peter School in 1943 and married Al Frasz, a classmate, in 1945. Together they raised nine children with all but two graduating from St. Peter School. She was a stay-at-home mom until 1965 when she started work at Montgomery Ward. She retired as department manager 20 years later.
Following her husband’s death in 1986, Mrs. Frasz performed volunteer work at Catholic Charities and at St. Peter. She was a founding member of the Feed the Needy program. She captains one of the funeral lunch teams, volunteers at the parish office and religious articles store, volunteers at the hospital and is a shut-in visitor. She was active on the bereavement team and helps with preparations for the Easter and Christmas Classic bake sales. She has 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren.
Inductee John R. Heringhaus was born in 1937 to Dr. F. J. and Helen Heringhaus, graduated from St. Peter School in 1955 and attended the University of Notre Dame, The Ohio State University, and The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, graduating in 1962. He opened his practice in 1963 and is now retired.
Terry Heringhaus was born in 1938 to Robert and Maxine Ross in Evanston, Ill., and moved to Mansfield in 1943. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1956 and furthered her education at Ohio Wesleyan University and The Ohio State University. In 1958, she converted to Catholicism and married Dr. Heringhaus at St. Peter Church. They have six children and 10 grandchildren. The couple says they have been privileged to be involved for many years in the St. Peter community, “a place very near and dear to our hearts.”
Mrs. Heringhaus has volunteered many years in the school buildings as a cafeteria worker, Easter and Christmas bake sale volunteer, education commission member, development board member, concession stand volunteer, eucharistic minister, Stephen minister, funeral luncheon volunteer, past president of the Catholic Women’s Club and Miss Ohio Scholarship Program volunteer.
Dr. Heringhaus has been a lector since 1968, served as pastoral council member, president of the first education commission, public announcer for the Spartan basketball teams, past president of Spartan Boosters, Little League coach and past president of the Mansfield Dental Society.
Together the couple visits residents of the nursing home, are involved in the adult retreat team, volunteer for Feed the Needy and summer festivals and host small prayer groups.
Inductees Michael and Sharon Santoro were both born in Mansfield and are SPHS graduates. Mrs. Santoro is the daughter of Maxine and Herman Schmitzer and Mr. Santoro is the son of Thomas and Marguerite Santoro. The Santoros have four children, all SPHS alumni, and have four grandchildren. Mr. Santoro graduated cum laude from North Central State College, was plant manager at the Tappan Company, owner of Executive Recruiter and retired from GM-Superior Building Service.
Mrs. Santoro worked as a private secretary at Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company in the accounting department, at the Tappan Company in the data processing department and was office manager at Executive Recruiter.
Mr. Santoro was past school commission president, parish council president, Junior Achievement volunteer, CCD teacher, Credit Union treasurer/manager, bingo volunteer, Cub Scout leader, St. Peter Elementary School girls and boys basketball and Little League coach, festival chairperson, member of the Day Care Formation Committee, Community Action for Capable Youth (CACY) board member, volunteer coordinator for Raemelton Therapeutic Equestrian Center, Mass lector and Serra Club past president.
Mrs. Santoro’s early volunteer years involved her as a cafeteria worker, room mother, bingo worker and festival worker. She was a Cleveland-Inner-City-Child host, sponsored a Vietnamese family of eight in Mansfield, is currently a eucharistic minister, prayer partner and a Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (C.F.C.A.) sponsor for a child in Guatemala.
Together the couple has served as Habitat for Humanity volunteers, Mansfield City Schools reading coaches, and members of the Haiti Project steering committee.
Inductee James Sgambellone was born in Aliquippa, Pa., and married Carol Marshall Sgambellone, SPHS ’60, in Mansfield. They have three children, all of whom graduated from St. Peter School. Both very dedicated members of St. Peter, Mrs. Sgambellone is a eucharistic minister, a member of the prayer shawl ministry, Ka-Cets and Catholic Women’s Club and a chaperone for Miss Ohio. Mr. Sgambellone ushers at Mass, bakes poticas and is very involved in the Knights of Columbus.
Together they have been involved in cooking the pasta dinner at the festival and so many other special events, organizing funeral lunches, tending to the snack bar at Sunday night bingo, helping coordinate and cook for the pancake supper, volunteering at the Easter bake sale and parish garage sale, Christmas Classic and a host of other parish and school events.
